MY CURRENT ROLES
Words4
Founder & President
Recognizing the unfortunately low literacy rates throughout Hawaii, compared to the rest of the US, I embarked to make a difference. I founded the Words4 Organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization seeking to bolster literacy rates in Hawaii and actualize educational equity across the socioeconomic spectrum. I created 76 professional reading videos, have over 100,000 digital views (YouTube and library/school databases) and 1,000+ returning students, developed live peer reading for younger students, and partnerships with 6 schools.
CareerAll
Founder & President
I started CareerAll with the mission to empower high school students with the knowledge and information required to choose their field of work.
Being part of the large community of Punahou with 3,744 students, I always wondered where all of my classmates would be after they graduate, in terms of careers. This question inspired me to perform a quick survey of over 120 students from different grades, regarding their goals. Conclusively, I determined that approximately 45% had no definitive goals, passions for specific jobs, or ideas of careers they would pursue after high school. This statistic was staggering to me, inspiring me to start CareerAll.
American Legion Boys State
Senator
I attended the American Legion’s Boys State California program, as the only delegate from Hawaii, because my home state’s Legion did not have the program. I was elected Senator and learned about the democratic and legislative process, particularly regarding bill-writing and parliamentary procedure.
Hawaii Department of the Attorney General
Intern
Summer intern for the Commerce and Economic Development Division (CED) of the Department of the Attorney General. I worked underneath Deputy Attorneys General. I was also put in charge of letter-writing, delegated to replying to public emails regarding service and assistance. I would reply by directing correspondents to the proper government agency or the correct section of the state legal code. I learned about the Department of Commerce and its interactions with both state, private, and individual agencies.
LITERARY SEMINAR CLUB
Founder & President
Being passionate about English and literature, I noticed a lack of emphasis on the subject throughout the school and community. Thus, I founded the Literary Seminar Club: an outlet for students who are dedicated to English and those wanting to cultivate and enhance their literacy skills.
